You better believe that Matthews loved this:
MATTHEWS: So why is the man in the oval office afraid of the man on 60 Minutes? Mike, why is George W. the man in the White House afraid to interview you. [sic.]WALLACE: Because he pays attention strictly to Karl Rove and that’s why from the very beginning that Karl Rove will not permit him to sit down with me.
Wallace acts as if it is President Bush’s duty to meet and be interviewed by him.

Let the guy in. Then talk. Minute after the story is finished airing, release full transcript & video. Probably catch some spin, but all will win in the end.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Karl Rove is the one who makes the decisions about what Bush says in public and to whom. I really wish there were more press conferences done by the president, or at least interviews.
