WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush, stung by the rejection of his first choice, will nominate Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, selecting a conservative federal judge to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, a moderate.
I have no thoughts at the moment except that I am disappointed he didn’t nominate Brown.
UPDATE: Let me make it clear .. I am not disappointed that Alito was nominated, just that Brown was not. Alito is a qualified nominee, there is no ifs, ands, or buts about that.

This is a very gutsy move for the President and vindicates him for the Miers fiasco. It shows that the President has indeed gotten the message and will no longer alow the minority Democrats to dictate who his nominees will be. It will not be easy to …

Bush to Alito: “Samachu, I Choose You!”
Our President has chosen Federal judge Samuel Alito as his next Supreme Court nominee. Alito is often called “Scalito” because of his judicial similarity to Justice Scalia. One unnamed Republican strategist is saying that calling Alito “Scalito” is…

I agree with you Ian, Brown would have been the best choice; but Alito is better than Meiers, and maybe that is the best we can hope for. I will suport him because at least he is conservative and considering the options, that sounds pretty good right now!

I’m very disappointed. O’Connors replacement has to be another woman. Some constitutional issues specifically affect women(half the population)yet their opinion and interpretation can not be considered.

I wasn’t surprised it wasn’t a woman, I heard a panel on Lehrer hour where they were saying talk was they were thinking well, I tried to nominate a woman and you slammed it…so I can do what I want.
