Hackers are after your identity and your life. Wired magazine just conducted a test using a laptop and a Jeep Cherokee which ended with the hacker messing with the stereo, turning up the A/C, and even driving the vehicle into a ditch on the side of the test lot.
Most auto buyers love the idea of an internet connected car. Manufactures have been tell us for years now how great having a service like OnStar is for safety and cars are becoming more connected than ever with internet, WIFI hotspots, bluetooth connectivity all from the factory. When we climb into our cars and connect our phones to the bluetooth and our kids connect to the tablets to the WIFI do we stop to consider others might be trying to do the same? When we bought the car and got really excited about the possibilities of all this technology did we stop to consider the risks after all the manufactures wouldn’t sell something with a gaping security risk would they?
It seems that they might just be. Watch the video from the Wired test and see for yourself.
