Expose the Left
September 26, 2005

Aaron Broussard appeared on Meet the Press two weeks ago and claimed his friend’s mother was told for several days that someone would come rescued her, however no one ever came. Broussard’s story turned out to be crocidile tears. Tim Russert had him back on yesterday’s Meet the Press to get the story straight. Broussard apologists are saying Russert is a right=winger and taking advantage of the situation. It is Journalism 101 to correct a false story. Imagine if the story was of Bush lying about a rescue effort to make it sound better, wouldn’t you want the truth?

Crooks and Liars, who calls Russert a ‘right-winger’, apparently didn’t think he was one when he interviewed Michael Chertoff:

Russert exposed the lies that have been coming from the administration for their lack of response to Katrina.

Crooks and Liars also had this to say when Russert appeared on Imus in the Morning a few weeks ago:

Tim blasted Bush for saying he didn’t know the levees could be breached. He said, ” The roll of the government is to protect its people.” Tim also brought up one of the biggest factors of all. After 9/11 and all the communications problems between the policeman and fireman that was a big factor in so many deaths.

Gee, it sounds like Crooks and Liars is only happy with Russert when he is being a left-wing apologist! I think we might have found our hypocrite of the year.

UPDATE: John Cole hits it head on:

Hunh? I guess the brave new world of the blogosphere has moved from “We fact check your ass? to “We fact check your ass unless it spoils our narrative.? By these new “fake but accurate? standards, Dan Rather should ask for his job back.

I’d like to say to Mr. Broussard…”are you kidding?”

    what a weirdo.

Just last week I saw a clip of Russert at a baseball game with James Carville.

I guess all those right-wingers hang out together.

Ian – Ultimately, is the lady still dead? How composed would you be in the circumstances that Broussard found himself in during the preceding days before the first interview? My guess is that you are currently not under any similar level of stress, yet you still managed to misspell crocodile on your main page. I do not point this out to embarrass you, but to suggest that in the midst of what was certainly a harrowing situation, Broussard got a few of his facts mixed up. I’ve seen others suggest that he was reading from some statement on that original interview day, and I find this claim to be preposterous. He was speaking from the heart, and clearly he was distraught about the whole spectrum if his and circumstances and those circumstances of his associate. The realization that his retelling of the story told him may not have been totally accurate does not diminish the reality of the death of the woman in question, nor does it vindicate the abysmally slow federal response, nor the state response, nor the local response.

By the way, if it is your position that ALL information should be checked for veracity, and that those who are responsible for “misleading” with their statements should be called on the carpet for doing so, I’m sure you will take the time to pronounce your support for the investigation into the full revelation of the Pat Tillman story, the investigation of the Plame leak, the W’sMD prevalence requiring the immediate urgency of our invasion of Iraq as well as the independent investigation of the slow response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Excuse me now, while I hold my breath waiting for your show of support…

Dan, wow is it your position that politicians can lie while under “stress”? Forgetting a mundane detail is one thing, fabricating an entire story is BS whether you were under “stress” or not.

Greg – First, he was relaying the story told to him. Combining the stress of the situation in general, the 6+ days that had gone by without any response, apparently, to his parish, and the abject tragedy of the elderly being left behind to fend for themselves without any assistance coming in ANY form and I don’t find it overtly difficult to recognize that Broussard could have easily confused the assortment of facts concerning the story. I’ll ask you the same question: Is that woman still dead? Did she die from a lack of response on the part of an agency or agencies at the federal, state, or local levels? It was clearly a spur of the moment relating of a tragic story in which the final outcome was the death of a, again apparently, close coworkers Mother.

I’m sure politicans can lie free from the influence of stress. I have no doubt also that they are able to lie while under stress as well. I’m sure I heard the President tell Brownie he was doing a heck of a job. That was a lie by any definition of the term. I’m also sure I read that Bill Frist just recently stated he was unaware of the activity going on in his blind trust, when he had been notified not 2 weeks earlier about transactional status. I suppose you will also support the release of all pertinent information concerning the situations I mentioned in my earlier post. I appreciate your interest and willingness to get to the bottom of those situations as well…

Wasn’t Broussard on vacation while George was in the thick of things trying to save lives… eh forget I said that. The nerve of these cajuns to interupt our President by dying. I mean how can we expect Dear Leader to do his job if he doesn’t get his 16 weeks of vacation each year and he flew over NOLA and waved to them. What more can you expect? Anyway I would not be surprised if that lady is not dead at all. I bet she is sitting on the porch of Trent lotts house in Missippi drinking ice tea with “heckova job Brownie”. Yippie I don’t have to think because I am a dittohead!
