(Hat Tip: Lorie Byrd @ Polipundit)
Lorie Byrd does a wonderful job describing what happened on last night’s Hardball:
After a discussion about how horrible everything is in Iraq, Hilary Rosen made the comment that there is another word for “insurgents? in Iraq and it is “residents.? Chris Matthews then commented that the British called us insurgents. He then added that it is true. (I am guessing that last line was in response to Susan Molinari’s dropped jaw, but can’t say for sure because the camera was not on her at the time.)
As the camera was fading out you heard (and could clearly make it out) Chris Matthews’ saying “it’s true”. Hmm that is wierd, I don’t remember seeing the word “insurgent” in any book I’ve read about American History.
More thought over at Protein Wisdom.

LIBERAL MATH: INSURGENTS=RESIDENTS

Chris Matthews: We were once ‘insurgents’ too!
He’s starting to sound like ‘Professor’ M. Shahid Alam, who compared what the 9-11 hijackers did to Revolutionary War soldiers.

Cripes. No wonder MSNBC’s ratings are in the dumps. It’s been years since I’ve tuned them in. What a bunch of drivel.

Several references to the Revolutionary War Americans as “insurgents” are documented in McCullough’s “1776.” I think the main point here as that the MSM was changed the definition of an insurgent to be one associated with terrorism. Despite Brian William’s best efforts, our Founding Fathers were NOT terrorists. Similarly, those causing violence in Iraq are not insurgents, they are terrorists.

I don’t recall General Washington using horse drawn buggy bombs to blow up innocent civilians.Comparing the terrorists in Iraq to the patriots who fought to found this country is a disgrace.I hope our troops fighting for Iraqi frredom do not think idiots like Chris Mathewes or Hilary Rosen are representative of what the majority of Americans feel.

What they call them is less important than the fact that many of them are actually rooting for them and willing to sell out their own values in the hopes that the “insurgents” succeed.
p.s.
Does this make the members of the Iraqi police force “counter-insurgents”? They’re residents too, right?

Matthews isn’t hard hitting
He’s a disgusting merchant of slime
He deserves to get that smug look
Slapped off his face sometime
Matthews doesn’t play hard ball
He plays fast and loose
His whole goal is to stick
His guest’s neck in a noose
By talking loud and louder
By being abrupt and rude
By deliberately misleading
Or being blatantly crude
He counts on not getting
Punched in the face
He has no respect for truth
Manners or grace
He’s abrasive and arrogant
Disengenuous beyond belief
He loves to provoke and irritate
Whatever causes the most grief
He’s nobody’s journalist
Although he claims it as his work
Every day more and more
He reveals himself to be
An unrepentant jerk

The terrorists in Iraq aren’t “insurgents” in anything resembling the same sense of the word as used by the Brits to describe the American Revolutionaries. “Insurgent” as applied to Iraq is the MSM’s way of sanitizing their references to murderers and terrorists—more moral relativism (what else would you expect?). Dr. Schweaty is right—the problem isn’t that American Revolutionaries weren’t insurgents—they were; the problem is that the word doesn’t properly convey what the splodeys and their supporters in Iraq are doing.

#8 BEAM:
I slightly disagree, I think they’re ultimately rooting against Bush, not for the terrorists. Problem is, that they’re pushing so hard to discredit and vilify the president that they end up adopting the same logic as the enemy, and I think that the public is too smart as a whole to even think that they’re right (all it takes is a little common sense and a slight removal of the partisan politics hat). Chris Matthews is so transparently left leaning that he should just give up the damn facade, he’d probably get better ratings. That he tries to pass himself off as center is what makes him so pathetic.
/at least he’s a bad liar
p.s. read some Victor Davis Hanson . He actually says things that are historically true, and reading him reassured me—at least a little bit—about out country and how things are in the world.

I believe the British referred to American revolutionaries as “rebels.”

I read VDH every Friday. I agree that they defacto support the terrorists as a way to spite Bush. In reality, they are spiting their own values.

We should wish for an end to MSNBC, so that the likes of Chris Matthews and Keith Blubberman can go back to sticking their dicks up each other’s asses.

Here’s a link to 100 books describing the American Revolutionary Army as insurgents
Insurgent does not necessarily have a pajoritve connotation. It simply means something like “rebel” or “resistance”.
Thats not to equate the Iraqi insurgents with the Americans of ~1770. The Americans had a good chance of completely removing the British presence. Fortress America is in the mideast until the last well is dry.

Comment of 15 not required. Just finished 1776 by McCullough and the “they are us” argument is bogus. To the point though, Matthews schedules a RINO N.Y. small R republican to debate a moonbat (Rosen) and an angry N.Y. elite (albeit Black; which I suppose in N.Y. that gives him cache). With the “Big Giant Head” (apologies to Third Rock From The Sun) interrupting evreytime Molinari tried to speak it was the typical MSNBC slander fest. The telling statement though is “The Big Giant Head” accusing the General of being a part of the political team. Geez this guy needs a clue.

The insurgents are aliens. It is a well documented and well known fact that the “insurgents” are aliens. Most come from Africa, a large minority come from Iran and Syria. She lies. That they are aliens has been know since 03. Again the MSM lies.

BlueBalls with Chris Matthews
on MSNBC is a screwball show that I avoid watching. This oddball Matthews plays Teeball with some of the biggest goofballs in the MSM. The MSM throws softballs to Muslim Terrorism then rips foulballs to demoralize Americans. MSNBC and Matthews are dirtballs.
I vote with my wallet and all of You Should Too! The last time I glanced at “BlueBalls with Chris Matthews” it was sooo annoying that I immediately went to FOX and decided to buy products from Their Advertisers
I ended up with a 2006 Cadillac Escalade with the optional .50cal Turret. Why the .50cal? Well, a local Imam issued a fatwa against terrorism/mass murder. Those are Islamic code words for another attack/bombing/hijacking. Forewarned and Forearmed!

It amazes me that they are still debating this war. That’s why the democrats keep losing elections. They constantly try to relive the past. I didn’t even get to the part about insurgents. I couldn’t handle more than about half of that garbage with idiot Mathews going on about “well he knew” how the war would go and how the General is politically motivated. And then when that Rosen lady started going on with the misinformation about the reason we went into Iraq was only about WMD, I couldn’t handle it anymore. That is why the mainstream media hates the blogs and has lost its credibility and much of its viewership. They continue to spew out misinformation and the blogs continue to point out the truth they are not telling you. There were something like 28 reasons why Congress approved going to war with Iraq, including Iraq’s violation of the cease fire from the Gulf war when they took over Kuwait. I always thought that when one side breaks a cease fire, the fight is back on. By the way, I hope we all don’t find out anytime soon where the WMD went anyway (that was known to exist, was never found, and certainly not proven to have been destroyed)...

To get a sense of how “out of it” Ms. Rosen is, just think about one thing she said – she actually predicted a filibuster against Roberts! That has no chance of happening and I think the 25 – 30 votes against is probably pretty close to correct. Expect virtually every Republican to vote for Roberts, and expect many Democrats, who fear for their own re-election chances, to vote for him as well.
That defection of worry-wart Dems will give the junior Senator from New York (try saying that with a straight face) the wiggle room to vote against him even though the Hildebeast has been making nicey-poo talk in the last few days.
But, really, Hillary Rosen said nothing nor did she make any case on that awful Mathews show (which nobody watches) other than what she wishes would happen.
Interesting side note: Did you notice how fat she is? Her backside hangs off the edge of her seat like slabs of bacon. Why are liberals all so fat like her, Ted Kennedy, and thunder-thighs Clinton?
